Ellesmere an historic market town dating back to at least Anglo Saxon times and influenced by events ever since. Not to be confused with Ellesmere Port, this town lent its name to the port as a result of the Ellesmere Canal being built to that point about 200 years ago. Ellesmere today is looking to the future, embracing technology and opportunities for economic development. Despite the recent recession, Ellesmere is enjoying a brisk economy as aresult of a number of recent developments - The Canal Wharf renewal, Mereside improvements and Town Centre regeneration.
