WHO ARE WE?
Colemere Sailing Club was formed in 1959 and we have been sailing on Colemere ever since, introducing literally hundreds of people to the fun and thrills of dinghy sailing.
In 2007 we managed to purchase our beautiful clubhouse and negotiate a 50 year lease on the Mere that will enable us to continue sailing into the future.
WHEN DO WE SAIL?
Our season begins in the middle of March and extends right through until December. The main sailing days are on Sundays and also Thursday evenings. A safety boat is always manned and ready on race days.
Throughout the year we race on the club days for various trophies, we all try to win, but in this club we don’t take it too seriously, after all, we are here to have fun! We have trophies for the best sailors, but there are other special awards as well, for young sailors, for those trying hard and winning nothing, or just for falling in more often than everybody else.
DON’T LIKE RACING?
It doesn’t matter, there’s lots of room on the Mere for those who are learning or who just want to potter around and enjoy the Scenery, even while the races are taking place.
CAN ANYBODY SAIL?
Learning to sail isn’t difficult and it’s something you can start from childhood right through to your retirement years. For beginners we recommend weekend courses that you can go on.
Alternatively, experienced members of the club will be happy to show you what to do and give and to give you help learning for yourself. You can soon be out on the water and, with a bit of practice, start having great fun. We even have several Club boats that new members can train on and borrow before they decide which design of boat they would like to buy for themselves.
IS IT EXPENSIVE?
You can still buy a perfectly good boat for just a few hundred pounds, although you can obviously spend more if you want to.
CAN ANYONE JOIN?
We welcome all new members of any age, from complete beginners through to experienced, although children do need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
FANCY JOINING US?
There are memberships for families (£155), couples (£140), and individuals (130) plus an initial £25 joining fee. The rates are reduced from July onwards. Just come along on a Sunday or Thursday during the season and we will be pleased to show you around, answer questions and welcome you to the Club.
