Welcome to Ellesmere Town Council

Ellesmere Town Council is firmly committed to caring for, and improving, this ancient Market Town. A list of aims and objectives is kept before members of the Council and is updated as projects are achieved and new issues arise.

Currently it is involved in the Market Towns Initiative which it is hoped will bring many benefits for local residents.

The re-development of the old dairy site is top of the agenda for the Town Council. The turning down of the scheme by the Government is most disappointing but members continue to support the developer in his attempts to develop the site.

The Town Council has members on The Mere Committee, an advisory body made up of County Councillors, District Councillors and Town Councillors. Currently The Mere Development Plan is top of the agenda and developments to improve The Mere and Cremorne Gardens is eagerly awaited.

The Town Council, jointly with Ellesmere Rural Parish Council, administers Ellesmere Cemetery. Members are currently involved in pursing a Compulsory Purchase Order for additional land.

Town Council members sit on the Management Committee of Ellesmere Business Park and are pleased that the restrictions on the Park have now been lifted and that hopefully more business use will follow.

The Town Council plays an active role in supporting local events, local voluntary bodies and local leisure facilities, giving out grants whenever possible.

Shropshire Horticultural Society gave twenty planters to each town in Shropshire some years ago and the Town Council have these erected, planted and maintained each year, adding to the wonderful displays erected by the Ellesmere in Bloom Committee and the traders in the town.

The Annual Remembrance Parade is very important in the life of the Council. This is organised jointly with the Ellesmere and District Royal British Legion.
